Being named the Advocis Life & Health Insurer of the Year crowned what had already been a rewarding and productive year for Medavie Blue Cross from an industry profile and business growth perspective.
In a recent interview with Insurance Business TV, David Adams, VP, Business Development, described winning the award for “providing top-tier products and exemplary customer service” as a “tremendous honour.” He was particularly happy for the clients and advisors who have always had confidence and trust in us as their insurer of choice. David was invited by IBTV to reflect on the achievement with Insurance Business news editor Surina Nath and to share how our organization delivers on our commitment to excellence.
The Advocis Life & Health Insurer of the Year was among the awards announced at a virtual ceremony in November 2021, “recognizing, and commending the incredible work of individuals and organizations within the insurance sector over the past year.” Insurance Business received over 1,000 nominations for awards in 20 categories from across the country and were judged by a panel of industry experts and senior leaders.
In 2021, we continued to focus on protecting the health of the 1 in 12 Canadians we serve and providing clients with plans of real value that feature built-in flexibility and sustainability. As a customer-centric enterprise, we unveiled a series of innovative solutions to provide plan members with timely access to quality care and take a direct and active role in their health, We have also digitized and expanded our benefits to meet the unique needs of their plan sponsors and to help achieve their organizational objectives.
We launched a diabetes care program to help members self-manage chronic conditions; a healthcare navigation service to reduce the wait times for disability claimants to see a specialist; a mindfulness app to build mental resilience; a benefit plan to give small businesses the advantages of “big company” benefits; and a gender affirmation benefit to support gender diverse members through their transition process.
“We’re evolving together with our plan members, sponsors and advisors,” David said in his IBTV interview. “It very much feels that we are solutioneering together and that’s a good place to be.”
David spoke of the heightened need to expand our digital capabilities, to develop inclusive benefits and to support small businesses in the “war on talent” with packages that give them a competitive advantage. He identified optionality, flexibility and personalization as trends that will continue to drive benefit plan design and he emphasized the importance of taking a digital-first, but not digital-only approach. “Whenever someone needs care, we want to be there to talk to them.”
Looking ahead, David said the voice of the next generation of health-conscious employees is getting louder, underlining the need to respond to them with benefits that give them more choice and greater control over how they contribute to their health and spend their plan dollars. “It’s going to be exciting.”
