In a recent interview with Insurance Journal, Marc Avaria, Vice President of Product and Disability Management at Medavie Blue Cross, shares how employers can play a greater role in creating psychologically safe and healthy workplaces.
This begins with making sure employees feel comfortable disclosing their mental health challenges with employers.
Marc sees the role of employers evolving. Increasingly, employers are looking at how they can proactively support employees before mental health challenges escalate to disability leaves.
Marc cites pharmacogenomics and virtual iCBT (internet-based, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as examples of the health benefits that can prevent challenges from reaching that stage.
